Philadelphia, PA, February 24, 2013 – The National Federation of Advanced Information Services (NFAIS™), the premier membership association for organizations that create, aggregate, organize and facilitate access to high-quality, trustworthy information, has announced that Robert N. Snyder, Chairman, Cambridge Information Group, will be presented with the prestigious Miles Conrad Award on February 25, 2013 at the NFAIS 55th Annual Conference in Philadelphia, PA.
The objective of the Miles Conrad Memorial Lecture, established in 1965 in commemoration of NFAIS founder, G. Miles Conrad, is to recognize and honor those members of the Information Community who have made significant contributions to the field of information science and to NFAIS itself.
“Bob Snyder is a well-known and well-respected Information Industry pioneer,” said NFAIS President, Barbara Dobbs Mackenzie. “He has spearheaded many advances in information services over the course of decades, via direct investment or inventive partnerships, from the early days of CD-ROM through to current innovations in content digitization, discovery, and e-books. He has been influential in propelling the information industry forward through his eye for the value of content and a genuine commitment to connecting people with information. Bob’s innovative companies have been supportive NFAIS members throughout our history and the NFAIS Board is very pleased to bestow our organization’s highest honor upon him.”
Snyder voiced his sincere pleasure when contacted about his selection as this year’s Miles Conrad Lecturer. “It is quite an honor to have been chosen to receive the 2013 Miles Conrad Award and join the impressive list of information industry innovators and leaders who have been chosen in the past,” said Snyder. “I am very grateful to NFAIS for their recognition of my efforts on behalf of the information community.”
Snyder co-founded Cambridge Information Group (CIG) in 1971 and was owner of Cambridge Scientific Abstracts, which was merged into ProQuest LLC when CIG purchased ProQuest Information and Learning in 2007. He is currently Chairman of CIG and works with his son and CIG CEO, Andy Snyder, on the strategic direction of CIG’s companies. Bob was co-owner and chairman of National Standards Association from 1976-1993, until its purchase by Information Handling Services, Inc. And from 1977-1987 he was co-owner and chairman of Disclosure Incorporated, which is now part of Thomson Reuters. A civic leader, Bob currently serves on the Boards of several organizations, including the Smithsonian Institution Libraries Advisory Board, the Washington Hospital Center Foundation, the National Theater in Washington, DC, the Board of Regents of Hebrew University, and the Board of Ambassadors for Johns Hopkins Project Restore. Bob holds a B.S. in Accounting from Babson College, Babson Park, MA and a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School, Brooklyn, NY. He is a member of the Bars of the State of New York and the District of Columbia.
